newbie looking for encouragement
Newbie here in the group, not to the surgery. I had my surgery
1/25/02, lost 155 pounds by my anniversary, got down from 369 to
214, and have gained 40 in the last year. I know I have no one to
blame but myself. I’ve been doing the emotional eating thing due to
tremendous stress and family problems. Before surgery I had switched
comfort sources from eating to doing computer graphics and now I
scrapbook, so why am I now turning back to food and allowing myself
to undermine all I went through. I must admit I did NOT exercise, I
know I should have, but I didn’t. Now I’m paying for it. Is there a
way to get back on track? Is it too late for me? I do take my
vitamins faithfully, and my blood counts are fine. I just cancelled
my appointment for my check up. In Feb. I had gained 14 pounds, I
was too ashamed to go back and let her see I’d gained more. Lynn

—old habits die hard! A lifetime of expecting ourselves to fail,
and being our own worst enemies is not changed by surgery. It sounds
like “back to basics” time for you! Remember the successful
behaviors? Clean out the junkfood from your home! Keep a daily food
journal. Eat only 3 meals a day, no grazing. Drink your water. You
MUST know things that helped you succeed…you just need to re-commit
to those behaviors and accept that you are indeed WORTH the effort to
do so!

—sooooooooooooo, DO IT! Treat yourself like a fresh postop! Grab
your shopping cart and walk EVERY aisle of your local WalMart every
day! Get/take/borrow a dog and take it for a walk every day. I want
fast, quick exercise, so I joined Curves–and love it! 30″ and I’m
done for the day! I PROMISE you that I am one of those “always diet,
always loose some weight but then regain it” folks who HATED
exercise… now, my day in incomplete without a trip to Curves, and
my 30″ workout to fast-paced music! You know exercise is essential,
so decide to do it! It will help with how you feel, with your weight
loss and with any depression you may be having. I LOVE my
endorphins! LOL!

—–Decide on your plan of actions to get back on track, make an
appointment for your checkup (they ARE important), and before your
doc can say a word, hold your hand up like a stop sign, and say “I
have been off track and gained XX pounds, but I have recently
reviewed my postop rules and plan of care and I am recommitted to my
successful weight loss. I want your support.” She won’t DARE hassle
you…and if she does, give me her address and I’ll yell at her for
her lack of professionalism! LOL!
Lynn, recommit, put this tough period behind you, and keep us all
posted on your success!
