Having a bad craving

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I’m having a bad craving for chocolate! I’m trying hard not to give
in. Does everyone have these cravings a month after surgery? It’s
PMS time, but this is the worst I’ve had it. What can you do to
satisfy the craving without killing yourself?

Need a shoulder

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Tomorrow, I am off to see Dr Finklestein, then to Scarborough Grace
Hospital to meet the dietician and anaesthiestiast , so I am a little
nervous about it all, especially with my surgery on August 31
I have had alot on my plate since may, my mom died, my grandsons mom
took as overdose of heroin, which killed her, and just over a week ago
my youngest daughter Crystal came home from work, to find her common
law husband murdered in their kitchen, so I have not posted much, it
has been horrendous, I sure could use some prayers.
My husband cant go to these meetings with me, as he took so much time
off to be of support for Crystal and to attend the funeral, so I am
going all alone,
So could you please just keep me in your prayers, I sure would
appreciate it,
Elaine

Jeannie - on eating, going to work

Monday, March 26th, 2007

LOL! Yep, you’re paranoid! Can you stand 8 hours of work? Yes? Then go back.
At 3 weeks, you’re healed enough that you won’t pop open and spill your guts on
the floor. I hope! LOL! You are scarred closed, right?
As to food . . . lunchables, even a half, may be a little too much. Especially
too much chemicals . . . those kinda things give me problems these days. Much
prefer a slice of higher quality deli meat. SIts better. And the crackers
would make my stomach hurt . . . too many carbs. You might try the meat cheese
with a stalk of celery, *well chewed*.
Try cottage cheese, veggies (well chewed), cheddar cheese and other semisoft
cheeses, tuna salad, chopped chicken salad, for early forays into meat/proteins.
Try a little chicken, cooked soft, or chopped.
And low glycemic index veggies . . . salads, broccoli, green beans, etc.
Don’t know if your “hurt” is dumping or overfull, or just not settled well.
Good luck!

Came home Tuesday….

Monday, March 26th, 2007

and will continue to feel better and better so I am hoping.
Feel tired and crappy but that is to be expected. My surgery lasted from
10:45-2:45. He said it was a very big surgery (I had revision done) and had to
fix a few hernias.
YUCKO.
So I made it, was scared to death. Won’t tell anyone this is fun cause it
isn’t.
Food makes me what to hurl—not that I am GETTING any–with my lovely liquid
diet (clear liq’s) but the sight of food on tv makes me blah…..
Hope you all are doing great!

on the other side and am NOT checking my weight out for a few weeks. Don’t
want to see or know.

3 weeks & 5 days out

Monday, March 26th, 2007

I saw my doctor today for my 3 week 5 day post op visit. He says I’m
doing great. I’ve lost a total of 27.7 lbs. I asked the nurse that
if I went and tried to pee could I loose the .7? She laughed. My
doctor has started me on calcium, vitamin D and something for my gall
bladder. They look like horse pills. How am I suppose to take these
and won’t they upset my stomach? I’m worried. He’s also, ok’ed me
for regular food. In the past week I’ve had some soft food, but
solid food kind of scares me. I want to eat it, but it hurts
sometimes. Right now I tried eating 1/2 (2 oz) of a lunchable.
It’s very heavy and my stomach hurts a little. It use to seem like a
light lunch and it’s high in protein so, that’s why I thought to try
it. I’m still tired quite a bit of the time. I’m a substitute
teacher and school starts this week. I’m thinking of going back to
work. Should I or should I wait another week? I’m always afraid of
getting hit in the stomach. I continually keep my hand over my

newbie looking for encouragement

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Newbie here in the group, not to the surgery. I had my surgery
1/25/02, lost 155 pounds by my anniversary, got down from 369 to
214, and have gained 40 in the last year. I know I have no one to
blame but myself. I’ve been doing the emotional eating thing due to
tremendous stress and family problems. Before surgery I had switched
comfort sources from eating to doing computer graphics and now I
scrapbook, so why am I now turning back to food and allowing myself
to undermine all I went through. I must admit I did NOT exercise, I
know I should have, but I didn’t. Now I’m paying for it. Is there a
way to get back on track? Is it too late for me? I do take my
vitamins faithfully, and my blood counts are fine. I just cancelled
my appointment for my check up. In Feb. I had gained 14 pounds, I
was too ashamed to go back and let her see I’d gained more. Lynn

Outcome of “Help!! The chicken is stuck!”

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

Thank you all for your suggestions for my problem. I really was miserable
last night. I finally gave up trying to get unstuck and went to bed without
water or my evening meds. It was a rough night, but I woke up unstuck in the
am.
I slowly but away a couple of bottles of water, then some eggs. Everything
went through OK. Thank God. I had nightmares all night of barium swallows
and scopes!
I guess I need to learn to chew even better. It seems that there are a lot
of people who can’t eat meat without a sauce, so I guess I shouldn’t be in a
hurry to get rid of the sauces and gravies. I need to listen more to my body
than to worry about what other people think about what I’m eating. I get flack
about too much fat and gravy. The h___ with them. It’s my body and none of
them understands the workings of my pouch. Actually I don’t understand it all
that well yet myself. (I’m six weeks out)
Anyway, I’m going to pick up some meat tenderizer just in case I have more

Bone density test good

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

I recently went to a new PCP who I really like and is supportive of
the gastric surgery. She gave me a bone density test and told me I
was above average and that I had no problems. She said this was very
important if I were to have this procedure-I figure you lose some if
she felt it was important-anyone know anything about this-I am 48 and
permenopausal too so there could be bone loss at this time of my life
anyway

Help!!! Chicken is stuck!

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

OK I just wrote about not being able to eat chicken… Well, it’s still
stuck hours later! I’ve purged about 4 times and no real relief. Maybe I’m not
purging right?
Any help would be great.
