MGB
I have had the MGB and have been very happy with my 200 pound weight loss.
Dr Rutledge is a genius in my book. He had one insane patient early on that
caused a lot of trouble for him. She sued him and lost her case. BUT, there
was a lot of bad info out on the internet as a result. There are over 2500
patients that have had the MGB and most are very, very happy with the
results. I truly believe there is more than one good choice.
Dr. R has had the MGB undergo peer review and it has passed with flying
colors. PCP’s, gastro docs, and other surgeons all over the country support
it. It is not an RNY, it is a different configuration, and the fear was that
it caused the old bile reflux issues of the past. That simply is not true. I
know many patients who are very happy with their results. I DID require a
revision to lose all my weight. I DID stop losing after 100 pounds, but I
had the revision and have now lost another 100. I couldn’t be happier. ALL
wls has people who do not get to goal weight, whether they like to admit
that or not. I was unlucky but VERY lucky that it could be easily revised
for additional weight loss. Each time, my surgery took less than 40 minutes
and had a one night, no complications hospital stay. First surgery in 2000
cost 13K second one cost 17K, so price is competitive with one RNY, even
thought I was one of the unlucky ones who needed two surgeries. Most people
do not. Complication rate is VERY low. See CLOS.NET for all the details and
lots of information. INVESTIGATE EVERYTHING and reach you own decision on
what is best for YOUR health. RNY’s are harder to revise and they take
longer to do. STILL a great surgery, but there is more than one choice.
