Insurance Trend Articles

I pulled these from an Insurance Industry Magazine that I am privy
to. It gives you an idea of what the insurers are looking at, there
are two articles.
Good luck

Trimming The Costs Of Obesity
By Ronald S. Leopold
Benefits advisors should be offering employers ideas about ways to
fight employee obesity.
According to the National Institutes of Health, one-third of all
Americans are considered obese, with a body mass index over 30, and
two-thirds are considered overweight, with BMIs over 25.
The National Business Group on Health, Washington, estimates that
obesity costs U.S. employers $13 billion a year. Obesity has links

Hello everyone, I pray everyone is having a great day and week. It has been a
while since i posted but i have been peaking in on you guys here and there. I
am in the middle of planning two big events. My birthday and my 2yr. anniversary
which are only 2 weeks apart. i never got around to doing anything for my 1year
or even my 100lb mark. So i really want to do something this year. However, i am
stuck on what i could do. I don’t really want to just go out to eat. although
that would be nice to go out to a nice restaurant and not leave the place
stuffed and sick, to be able to just enjoy a place. and the other problem is i
am about 3hours away from my family who wants to be apart of whatever i do. plus
i have my friends and people i am close to here. so i really don’t know. some
idea’s i have tossed around are : going out to eat then to a spa, and or
dancing. a movie and hanging out with friends and family, road trip would be
nice, either going to a nice hotel for the weekend and
spoiling myself. or just having a big party somewhere , since i can not
remember the last time i had a birthday party for myself. Well, what do you

Therapist has now cleared me for surgery!!!

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Hello everyone! I haven’t posted in a long time so I thought I would let you
know what’s going on. I went to counseling as suggested by my docs and have now
been cleared for my surgery by the therapist. On to the next step. I’m trying
not to get to excited just incase something else happens. I was distraught when
they told me I had to get counseling, but looking back I’m really glad it
happened that way. You never know what’s lurking inside of you until your
forced to take a good, hard look. I never knew those things were causing me
problems until I delt with them and now feel the difference in myself. So keep
your fingers crossed for my success jumping the next hurdle… the insurance
company.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Thanks for your posts!

Help for Nona?

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

<< I don’t dump anymore and that scares me. Maybe
we can help each other get through this. Anyone have any ideas?
Nona
Some can reset dump-o-meter by cutting out all sugar for a few says, going on a
protein feast.
Drink 4-6 very low sugar protein shakes/day, and eat only protein, and green
leafies. Get the protein shakes from VitaLady.com, and protein foods from local
grocer. :o)
Good luck, Nona . . . I know I’m dumping less, and not happy about it. Means
I’m eating too much sugar.
Take good care . . .

Update on me-long X-Post

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Hi all, I hope everyone has had a great holiday and new year. I wish I could say
the same. First off, I must apologize for sending this X-post to my groups, I
belong to many and do not have the energy or brain power to post individually.
As some of you know I have been battling dehydration with a vengeance! The last
week of December, I spent a lot of time receiving IV fluids. In fact that
Wednesday I received 2 liters of Ringers and then the next day I received
another 2 liters at my PCP’s office. It has become such a problem that my veins
are being blown and I am concerned that if there were an ER, it would be
difficult to find one easily. Because of that, my mom convinced me to call Mayo
on Friday, New Years eve. I fought with the resident on-call on the phone for
over 1/2 hour because I did not want to go through what I did 3 weeks ago.(they
stabilize me, then discharge with no ideas or any resolution to the dehydration
problem) He promised me that it would not happen and insisted that I go down on
New Year’s Eve. Well, that’s where I went and my new boyfriend Rob and I spent
New Year’s Eve in a hospital room at St Mary’s.

Dr Fisher’s 9 rules

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

I was asked to post this on the website by another member.
I’ve also included another person’s “10 commandments”
These rules are not from my surgeon, but are very, very similar.
All are useful in helping us be successful!

Hello Everyone, newbie here.

Hi,
My name is Andrea and I’m 26 yrs old. I have a surgery date
of Jan 25 and
I’m pretty scared. I was scared of numerous things but I
think my largest
concern is the skin afterwards. Even though I know the
doctors told me not
to expect a miracle weight loss with this surgery..i’ve
been expecting the
best and now that i’ve been informing myself more and more
lately, I’m
realizing that I was wrong. I have 18 days to go and I know
how time flies
so I am just trying to take it easy. Can anyone help me out
with tips on

I recommend that you drink as much protein, in the form of low-no sugar shakes
as you can swallow, and shove as much vitamin C as you can tolerate in there
also. This protein and C loading will help you heal faster.
If you get diarrhea, back off the C a little until it disappears, then gradually
increase.
Get protein shakes from VitaLady.com, best kinds for us (pre-digested, whey
protein). Make them with water, ice only. No fruit, no milk, yoghurt, etc.
Extra calories, and lots of sugars. You know that you make be lactose
intolerant post-op? Many of us are . . . I can eat cheese, some lo carb
yoghurt, a little cream, but *NO MILK!* ANd some processed cheese (mcDonald’s),
some brands of creamed cottage cheese, etc. get me.
So have a last fling with milk, ice cream, etc . . . eat some of those things
that you may not wanna live without. :o) But you will . . . stay healthy (the
protein and C will help), and don’t gain any weight in the next few weeks.
Don’t stock up any food . . . buy a few can of broth, a couple boxes of SF
