New member with big worries
Hello my name is Gloria and I had my open RNY June 27, 2004 and my starting
weight was 323, I am now down to 263. I have only lost a total of 60 pounds,
but I have reached a major plateua that I just can’t break. All my blood work
comes back perfect, my diabetes is under control to the point that I no longer
take any kind of insulin at all. The problem is that I have been between 261
and 263 a little over two months now and I am terribly worried. When I returned
to my surgeon, he told me I was not losing as fast as expected and then he
breezed out of the room. He spent a total of about 5 minutes listening to my
heart and checking the incision. I felt like yelling down the hall after him, ”
run like the wind” needless to say I am greatly disapointed in his uncaring
attuitude. I am drinking so much water that I slash as I walk. I am wondering
if part of my trouble could be from having IBS with terrible constipation? I
have arthritis and fibromyalgia along with spurs on the spine withdegenerative
joint disease, so it is very painful for me to do many exercises but I push
myself through the pain and keep going. I hope you don’t thnk I am making
excuses, because that is far from the truth. I am grasping at straws and I just
feel like I am sinking into a deep dark hole and I don’t know what to
do to get back on track. I just can’t fail after going threw such a serious life
changing surgery, I need any and all sugestions because I am at my wits end!
Some members of my family are just waiting for me to fail, it’s the I told you
so syndrom.. I am going to call my surgeon and set up another appointment, and
I will get some answers to my questions one way or another.
Please any help
or suggestions will be greatly appreciated, hugs Gloria

What are you eating in a day? It is entirely possible that you are not
eating enough. List out what you eat and exactly what kind and how much
exercise
you get every day/week. That would be a place to start.

meds. What a milestone!
The problem is that I have been between 261 and 263 a little over two months

I felt like yelling down the hall after him, ” run like the wind” needless to
say I am greatly disapointed in his uncaring attuitude.I’m sorry his attitude
was not the best. We have to work around doctors who don’t put much emphasis
on aftercare. As for having diabetes that alone (on meds or not) will make
weight loss that much slower. It’s not you, it’s the diabetes. My plateau in the
first year was 3 months and I thought I was done, then weight loss started
again. I did all the same things, just needed time to adjust I think.
I am drinking so much water that I slash as I walk. I am wondering if part of
my trouble could be from having IBS with terrible constipation? I have
arthritis and fibromyalgia along with spurs on the spine withdegenerative joint

I
am sinking into a deep dark hole and I don’t know what to do to get back on
track. We don’t think you’re making excuses. You have legitimate medical reasons
why you can’t exercise as much as someone else who doesn’t have all these
problems. The weight will come off. If you stick to all the water you’re
drinking, Protein forward meals and exercising when you can, you’ll be fine.
Many
post ops with arthritis or joint problems do water aerobics as it’s easier on
the joints and fibromyalgia problems. If you can’t do that it’s ok too. As
long as you’re taking in less calories than you’re burning off you’ll lose.
I just can’t fail after going threw such a serious life changing surgery, I
need any and all sugestions because I am at my wits end! Some members of my

will be greatly appreciated, hugs Gloria Hang in there - you’re doing this for
you. It’s your choice and you’ll do it at your own pace. Don’t let anybody
tell you that you won’t be successful or that you aren’t doing your best at
this.
Good Luck on the next appointment. Let us know what happens. In the mean
time, know that in 6 more months you’ll be wondering why you were so worried.
Make
sure you take care of you and that your body tells you when you’ve had enough
exercise. We don’t want you to overdo it. The weight will come off. Some of
us are slower. This is life changing surgery - it will happen. You didn’t gain
all your weight in a short period of time, you won’t take it off overnight
either. You have medical issues that prevent the rapid weight loss that some
experience. Good Luck - hang in there!
