pregnant one year after surgery
We found out we are having a baby…
It’s been a full year and a month since my surgery….
We are happy because we have never been able to have children, but
have always wanted to have some. We are extremely worried though.
There is so much going on in my life and I just have to rant and
rave somewhere. We are currently stationed in Germany. The
military clinic has refered me to see a doctor on the economy (a
German doctor). My husband is being deployed to Iraq in October. I
just don’t know what to do. When he leaves I will be left here
alone for the duration of my pregnancy and possibly my delivery if
he can’t get R n R for when we expect the baby. Aside from having
had the gastric by pass a year ago; I’m also diabetic. My family
wants me to go home to the states right after my husband leaves.
I’m worried that we will lose housing and thus, I will have to stay
stateside until after he finishes his tour in Iraq, but also here in
Germany… I can go home for a visit, but it can’t be for a long
period of time… We do live off post and I think who would know
I’m not here. Yet, I’m pregnant and have to see the doctor so, I’ll
be found out… I’m stressed and don’t know what to do.

Hmm..My sister had a baby in Germany a couple years ago. It was difficult. I
went to one of her OB appts. The hospital was so far behind US hospitals. It
was weird. They are like 10 years behind us. She couldnt get an epidural. In
fact, they wouldnt even give her tylenol. Scary. I think the hardest thing for
her is the fact that no one except one staff midwife spoke english and she
wasnt on when my sister delivered. Now she was in East Berlin and if you are in
another city, it may not be quite so old fashioned. If you can deliver on base
somewhere, I am sure your experience will be much better. Have you met many
people while there? do you have a support system? Friends etc? My sisters

played professional hockey over there so she did have the other hockey wives
as support as well as the team manager who would go to doc appts with her and
translate. Weird, yes but necessary. Anyway, it really may be better for you
to go home to deliver. After your dh gets back from IRaq. where will he be
stationed? Back in the US? Or in Germany again?
