Also New and need help
Hi everyone,
I ma new to this site, but am certainly glad I found it! I am one
month post op and still having some rather disconcerting issues. The
main one is that I am experiencing some rather unnerving diahrea.
This comes on very suddenly and often is so violent that I cannot
make it to the bathroom in time. (Sorry to be so graphic!) I have
not been able to tie it to any specific food. This is really scary
because I have to go back to work in a week and a half and would
just want to die if this happened at work.
Is it possible that my calcium (Caltrate) is causing this problem?
Or, maybe the whey in the protein drinks? I am at a loss to figure
out what to do. I called my doctor’s patient counselor yesterday and
she was supposed to have the Dr call me but thus far, I have not
heard from him.
The other issue is finding something to eat. When I first came out
of surgery, I was having no problems in that area. For the first 2
weeks everything went down fine. Now, nothing seems to settle well
in my stomach except maybe applesauce. I am still on the pureed diet
but would actually prefer not to eat at all then to feel yucky after
I do. I am not really nausious, but just don’t feel well after
eating. And almost anything I put in my mouth seems to start my
intestines gurgling which leads to more diahrea.
HELP!

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the advice, etc. Just to let you all know….the
crisis is over. Turns out the problems I have been experiencing are
not really related to the RNY but rather to the gall bladder
removal. Since I still have not heard back from my surgeon after
calling him 2 days ago, this morning I went to my primary physician.
He put me on a prescription medicine that he said will help correct
the imbalance I have in my intestinal track due to the removal of my
gall bladder. It has been a miracle.
To those of you that suggested that this was dumping, not the case
at all. I have been very careful about what I eat..no sugar, dairy,
etc.
I have definately turned a huge corner today and now, except for the
fact that I can only eat a very tiny bit…I feel absolutely normal!
YIPPEE.
Thanks again,
Sherrye
