November 17
Hello everyone…
My surgery date is getting close. I am scheduled for surgery on Nov. 17, and I
am starting to get a little nervous. I will just be glad when this is all
over. I would be happy to hear any tips or encourgements available.. thanks

Hi Pamela,
Have you ever had any surgery before? I found it to
be comparable to my two c-sections. I was back to
work (desk job) in two weeks.
Use this time to make a list of 100 reasons you’d like
to lose weight. After your surgery, you can start to
cross the accomplishments off your list. It gives you
purpose and site on what you’re doing.
Prepare your house with a few of the basics for a post
surgery diet. Your surgeon should give you
suggestions as to what you should be eating, and
approximately how much. The only physical problem I
had after my surgery was trying to get myself out of
bed the first few days. If you have one, or can get
one, a recliner can be the most comfortable way to
sleep. Get out of bed as soon as you’re able in the
hospital and walk as often as you can. It really does
speed your recovery. You might find it hard to stand
up straight at first (the wound seems to pull at you),
so I found that by standing up agaisnt a wall and
trying to press my back to it, it helped me stretch
myself straight. Of course if you’re having
laproscoping surgery it won’t be as much of an issue.
Ask for a binder. They don’t always offer them, but
usually have them on hand. It takes a lot of the
horror out of those first few sneezes and coughs!
Know that you are taking your health into your
control, and with the aid of WLS you are on the start
to a whole new life.
best wishes,
