Unsolicited communication from a journalist
I just got an e-mail that reads, in part:
article on weight loss surgery for an upcoming issue. My research suggests
that starting a couple of years after bypass, many patients start to regain
some weight. On an online support forum I found a posting from you, dated
last January, indicating that you are experiencing this problem. I was
wondering if you would be willing to speak further with me about it.<<
She isn’t doing anything unprofessional or unethical here, but her note is a
reminder that our communication on these lists is *not* private. We’ve got
far more lurkers than active participants - and we don’t know who those
people are or what their agenda is. Keep that in mind!
