Lamasil Question

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

I, unfortunately, have developed a fungus under my toe nails. Of course, this
has nothing to do with my surgery. I had lap RNY 3/7/03 and have done
beautifully…no problems. My question is whether anyone has taken Lamasil. I
am not asking for medical advice just wanted to know if anyone had taken it and
whether it caused problems. It has to be taken over a long period of time –
3-4 months — and can be very hard on the liver. Since I know meds and alcohol
hit our liver faster, I was wondering if anyone knew if this medication could be
more difficult for us. I appreciate any help you all can offer. Thanks!

Increase in dental cavities

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

I had RNY 3 years ago, recently my dentist has noticed a
significant increase in dental cavities. I was wondering if this
could be connected to how my body now uses the nutrients in
the food I eat? Are there any supplements that would help
decrease this problem??

>OSSG Shakes

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

My shake:
I get Champion Designer Whey Protein from vitalady.com. I make my
shake with 8 ounces of water/ice, using a scoop and a half of protein
and a heaping teaspoon of unsweetened Hershey’s cocoa powder for
added flavor. Mixed up in an electric blender.
Doesn’t taste bad at all.

de-lurking/introduction

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Hello all.
I subbed this list back before I had my surgery, then put it on no
mail, and have just come back to it. I’m eight months post-op, and
realizing I don’t have a lot of support in place, and as I’ve been
plateaued for a month, I’m reassessing everything I’m doing.
Me in a nutshell: I’m now 44, had a laparoscopic RNY in mid-Dec ‘04
with surgeons DeCsepel and Gabriel at St Vincent’s Hospital in NYC.
I failed the swallow test the day after surgery, and was hospitalized
for 10 days, then on tube feeding at home for a couple of weeks,
during all that time not allowed anything by mouth, so I date my
anniversary–the first day post-op when I could take liquids by
mouth–as Jan 5, ‘05. Since then I’ve lost 77 lbs, from a high of
315. In August I stalled out, losing nothing for the month.
Taking a hard look at what I was doing, I realized I’d increased my
carbs too much, and was eating too much–often not stopping at meals

Biotin….HELP

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

BlankI was checking out a bottle of Biotin and was going to buy it.
It was sugar free, no artificial flavours/colours, no calories, no fat….etc.
But the I noticed that the Biotin was “synthetic”.
And manufactured by “Jamieson Naturals”.
Can we buy natural biotin for internal use?? (I’ve seen natural biotin shampoo)
Or is synthetic biotin just as good??
Thanks!
Sam :-)

Seven year anniversary

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Yesterday was the seventh anniversary of my RNY … 8/31/98.
I wish I had some nuggets of wisdom to pass on. The fact is that I’m
struggling — after hitting my maximum weight loss at about two years
post-op, over the past five years I’ve gained back more than half of what I
lost. There are a couple of reasons for that. One is that my “pouch” has
stretched (I know this because I was scoped after developing a stomach ulcer
in 2/04 — which was probably a late complication of the wls — and the
gastro doctor was able to see its current size). Another is that I’ve been
taking in too many empty calories — junk food and alcohol — although I’m
beginning to get back in control of that. And a third is that with my
current work schedule, I’ve gotten way off the workout routine I had
developed for several years, with pretty much daily gym workouts,
alternating cardio and weight training. I need to make the time to resume
that level.
OTOH, even with the re-gain I’ve had, I’m still 75 lbs less than I was

I lost 13 1/2 inces since July 12, 05

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I thought I wanted to see how much longer I could fit into a cool pair
of shorts that I have that could not wear for the longest time. So I
tryed them on and could not believe my eyes they fit and and even big
on me which I will not beable to wear that long before they get to big
on me. So i thought it was time to measure myself and I had to do it
twice because it was alot of inces I lost. I lost 13 1/2 inces since
July 12, 05.
I had for breakfast this morning 1 egg beater with a little cheese and
1 tablespoon of apple sauce with pear sauce and no sugar in it, my
girlfriend made it for me from scarch.
I slep alot this weekend because I was not feeling so good but no I
feel so much better now.

all of it. I have to go play with my cocktail for while then try going
to bed and laying on my left side. Used to be able to drink a cream

burps and I need one big one.
