1month 3 days Post surgery

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Hello all,
As the subject line said. I am 1 month and 3 days post gastric bypass
sugery(r-n-y). I am going back to work tomorrow. What a difference my
life is now that I made the decision to have the surgery. I was
348lb’s. I am now 289 and the weight is still comming off. I go to the
gym everyday. I spend a half an hour on the tread mill then go to the
weight machines.
You what really makes you feel good is when people notice and say that
what a difference. My wife and I both work at the same place. I have a
lot of support from my fellow associates as well as my family.
I believe that it is a must that you have a very supportive base.
Before and after the surgery. I would strongly recommend that if you
could do the surgery go ahead and get it done.
There is a lot of changes in your life still after but it is worth it.

Weighing more on hospital discharge

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Carolyn ,
I had lap rny 11/9/05 My weight was 14 pounds more than when I went
into the hospital YES 14 pounds when i got home then when i left for
the hospital . I had a hard time peeing as well . Once the the
water started running (LOL ) I lost those pound fast like over night
. Yes watery stool is normal . think about it you can not make
solid out of liquid so to speak . your intake is all liquid hence
all liquid out put . Yes It is very important to WALK and SIP
your protein drinks . and good old WATER . So walk and sip and
then walk and sip if only you walk around the house for 5 min. then
rest and repeat . It will help get things flowing . also help in your
healing .
hope this helps ,

Stoma Scaring

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

What can anyone tell me about intentional scaring of the stoma in the
pouch. My surgeon is suggesting this as an adjustment so addtional
weight can be lost. Only 65 lbs was lost and an addtional 40 needs to
come off. What are the pros and cons? It’s is three years since
surgery.

No negativity here!

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

My surgery is Nov. 17 I had my last weigh in Nov. 9 I have experienced very
little negativity.
My family is 100% for it. They have seen me struggle with my weight all my life
and they worry that I won’t live long unless I do something drastic soon. The
people at work have been very supportive. I’ve run into a few that had a friend
of a friend die/go into a coma/ etc I just don’t let them bother me. They
weren’t there when I starve myself to lose weight only to gain all that plus
back. I’ve been doing that for 35 years… It’s not working. I am worried
about the surgery, I wouldn’t be human if I weren’t, but I’ve made my decision.
All I can do is put it in God’s hands…

SECOND REQUEST: Gastric bypass with colitis

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

I posted this awhile ago and only got one response. I am very anxious to talk to
anyone with colitis, please email me. Thanks.
Is there anyone on the list who has colitis and has had a gastric bypass? I have
colitis and am having my surgery at the end of next month — I CAN’T WAIT but I
am concerned about how the colitis will react to the surgery and also about
taking colitis meds post-op. I am very interested in also talking to anyone who
has colitis to discuss “real life” experiences.
Thanks

Is this right for me?

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

Hi,
I am considering a gastric bypass. Needless to say, i am not sure it
i will be allowed to have it and i am not sure of the risks. I am
considered morbidly obese and like most of you, i have been battling
my weight since i was a child. I have had brief windows of thinness.
The longest lasting a couple of years. I am now a mother of 2 and a
former smoker so this has added quite a bit of weight as well. I had
post-partum depression after my second child and have been on prozak
ever since. It is not helping with my weight as the doctor had hoped.
I have also done Weight Watchers, Curves, swimming, walking, Xenical,
The Zone, starvation in the 80’s (yikes). I am now beginning to
experience chest pain, breathlessness and joint pain and stiffness. I
am at the end of my rope. I have everything else under control in my
life except my weight. I feel like this surgery is my last hope. I
want to be able to run with my kids, ride a horse again, go on a

Also New and need help

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

Hi everyone,
I ma new to this site, but am certainly glad I found it! I am one
month post op and still having some rather disconcerting issues. The
main one is that I am experiencing some rather unnerving diahrea.
This comes on very suddenly and often is so violent that I cannot
make it to the bathroom in time. (Sorry to be so graphic!) I have
not been able to tie it to any specific food. This is really scary
because I have to go back to work in a week and a half and would
just want to die if this happened at work.
Is it possible that my calcium (Caltrate) is causing this problem?
Or, maybe the whey in the protein drinks? I am at a loss to figure
out what to do. I called my doctor’s patient counselor yesterday and
she was supposed to have the Dr call me but thus far, I have not
heard from him.
The other issue is finding something to eat. When I first came out

Any opinions on zyrtec for post wls? Insurance is changing prefered med list
and allegra is no longer on it. Claritin never did a thing for me. My kids take
zrytec so I can try it easily enough.
