doctor here but the surgeons that do it dont take other doctors
patients. What kind of doctor am I looking for? A gatroentorology,
endos…something or a surgeon?
I also wanted to know what kind of vitamins everyones taking cuz i
just have the b12, calcium and a prenatal type multivitamin. Am i
supposed to take iron pills? Thanks.

Pre Surgery Testing questions

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

I have been going to the hospital every week for the past few for
pre-surgical testing. With the initial bloodwork, they found I had
hypothyroidism and put me on Synthroid. I have done a sleep study and it
indicated sleep apnea. My pulmonary function tests came out good.
Today I had an Endoscopy done and the doctor came out afterwards and said
that I had a small ulcer and wrote a couple prescriptions. He said we would
have to redo the test in six weeks. I have not had any symptoms of an ulcer,
ever.
I had hoped that as of the last week of the month all my test were going to
be done and a surgery date could be scheduled. Instead I get thrown for this
loop. My cardiology workup is next Tuesday and the week after is the psych
eval.
I anticipated a few bumps in the road. Already though I have had two. Should
I start being worried that this surgery may not happen? I have so much
riding on this. I don’t want my weight to kill me.

my weight loss experience ~ almost 14 months out

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I have been reading the posts lately on why or why not have it done, and the
different experiences we have had after and I wanted to add my story for those
who are still on the fence:
My highest weight was 479 lbs. I am 5′8″ and at the
time, 35 years old. Married with three girls was wonderful but it wasn’t
easy. I have always been heavy, but after what seemed like a minor car
accident, I hurt my back and had a hard time recovering. My mobility severely
suffered and I was unable to do anything a normal person could. Walking,
sitting, sleeping laying down . . . nothing. The Dr. said I probably had a
bulging disk, but since I was already too big for the MRI machine, I would just
have to live with pain pills and do the best I could. (Until I lost enough
weight to fit into the machine). I went from 340 to 479 in a year and a half.
I went to several Dr.s who told me NOTHING was wrong with me because I had no
other health issues other than my back pain from the accident. NOTHING! Never
mind that I had to sleep sitting up in a chair, couldn’t walk without

Re Horror Stories

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I’ve been open to reading all the info I can get on weight loss surgery; I’ve
come to the conclusion that I’d rather risk dying than to go on living a half-
or quarter life like I am at this weight!

AP Story: As obesity surgery soars, patients weigh which metho..

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Barbara, I too am pre-op and have learned not to read these stories because
they are often medical opinions and differ depending on who was quoted and who
is writing the article. I focus on people like Michelle and Don (Vitalady
and Vitaguy) who are 10 and 11 years out and great examples of success
stories. Also people can make statistics read almost any way they want them to
read
and unless you disect the whole story and put it into perspective it can be
very scary…….. please talk with the people on this board and se how well
they are doing - these are real people - not a story with statistics and
no-one to talk with who can verify whether what is being written is true or
not..

my surgery date, March 13. I am good health, 31 yearls old, weight 285. I
think that I am a good candiate for the surgery as I am prone to less
complications due to the status of my health, but this article put me back
at square one. :( Barbara

what vitamins to take

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

The best source for vitamins around is our own Vitalady. Her website
(Vitalady.com) is the ONLY place I will get ANY of my suppliments, vitamins and
protein drinks. They are very reasonable and great to deal with. She always has
the time to answer any questions you have too!!! They are the bestest!!!
Congrats!! Welcome to the land of “losers” !!! Its an awesome ride : )
