good scar question

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

I went to my Dr. this last Friday and he took one look at my scar and said he
wanted to cut it out because he didn’t like how it looked. (it took 2 months to
heal. . .refused to close!) He said we would discuss it at my 9 month
appointment in August. What is involved? I hadn’t heard of this before he
mentioned it. I thought I was stuck with it. By the way, I had to have it done
“open”. . . and that was 7 months ago. :) I don’t want to have another
surgery. If that’s the case. . .I’m going to live with it as is. Just
wondering if anyone had any info to share.

Many Shot Down By a Pound Rebound

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

Pookie <Pookie20852@y…
“Physics abides by the laws of Newton.
What goes up always comes down.
Dieting has a law you might call the Fig Newton.
If weight goes up and back down, it usually goes up again.”
..on average, four years after starting to lose weight,
..people have gained at least three-quarters of it back.
Studies like these scare me…and my “fear of failure” escalates.
I have gotten so much support from co-workers, friends and family,
I am petrified of “rebounding” and failure!
Nowadays, when I hear a compliment “you look great” all I can think about are
two things:
1) how ugly I look naked with all my skin flapping and draping
(plastic surgery is financially a dream only) and
2) how disgusted everyone will be with me WHEN I fail again and

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

when I was 360, starting my WLS journey, my biggest goal was to gt
below 200 pounds…even if it was by ounces! I weighed in at 198 on my
11th month aniversary this week…Yipee!
Hmmm, what should be my next goal?

blood tests and nutrition question

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

I suppose I should have clarified in my initial posting, but I wanted
to make sure you understood - what I stated in my email WAS the
doctor’s assessment of the blood test results. Since my PCP does follow-
up, she wasn’t quite sure how common the results were in GBS patients.
I spoke with the GBS surgeon this morning and he concurred with her
assessment of the test results. I do not “self-diagnose.”

Lap Loop Gastric Bypass?

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Hi all!
I have a surgery date of 06/08/05 for Lap Loop Gastric Bypass… this might
sound silly… but is this the same as “Lap RNY”? I have been reading all of my
information, but can’t seem to get a grip on what LLGP is… compared to Lap
RNY. Can anyone explain what, if any, differences there are? I know it is not
the LAP-band…
Thanks,
Maria

Mini Gastric Bypass

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Does the ASBS endorse the mini-bypass?
A “mini-” doc just started operating in my town…
and his seminars/advertisments give the impression
that he uses the “more the merrier/how many patients
and their money can we get quickly” technique of patient
counseling and seminars vs quality surgeons who educate,
evaluate, and are selective.
Any one else gotten this impression?

Compression Clothing correction

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Hi again everyone,
I need to clarify my previous post. I realize that w/the lap procedure (if
that’s what I have) I won’t have the incision problem… but just wondered if
the compression clothing would help the sagging skin at all?
Thanks,
Maria

Compression clothing

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Hi everyone! I haven’t yet been approved for bypass surgery, but don’t think
that it should be a problem.
My question to you all is this: anyone wear compression clothing post op… and
if so, was it worth it? When I had my hysterectomy back in ‘02 I had a HORRIBLE
scary experience w/the incision… so started thinking that compression
clothing after gastric bypass (lap or open RNY) would be benificial in just the
fact that it would help the skin hold tighter… but obviously it would cost
quite a bit… as you lose, you buy new, right? Before I spend the $$…
thought I’d send it out to the experts… all of you post ops! :o)
Thanks,
Maria

Gastritis/Stomach damage

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Today was my first appt with surgeon. I was told I may not be a good
candidate for surgery because I had resistant H-pylori for many years (probably
at least 23yrs, because I was about 16 or 17 when I had my first ulcers) and had
alot of damage done to the lining of my stomach. I was told they are going over
the scope (Feb 2005) information to make a decision. He said that sometimes if
the stomach has been too damaged, it does not do well after surgery (healing for
example). I have severe gastritis even with Nexium 40 mg (sometimes twice a
day). If I stop taking Nexium even for a week, I have so much pain I cannot
think of anything but the pain.
The question is does anyone have Gastritis or any of the other stomach problems
I mentioned? If so how did the surgery effect it (help or hurt it)?

PS. The h-pylori was finally cured about 2 yrs ago because I was in an h-pylori
test at the Veteran’s Hospital. I had been treated at least 10 times prior to

Brain storm

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

Good day to you all,
I was just sitting here thinking about the crystal light on the go
packets, I think it would be really convenient if we could get our whey
protein in these to go packets! Just think of the convenience, just
throw a few of them into your purse as you are going out of the door. I
also wanted to update you all on my weight loss slow down. Since I
posted last I have lost another 6 pounds. I have started to drink 2-3
protein shakes daily, I admit that I had been slacking off o drinking
them, but I have learned the error of my ways. Also I have an
appointment with my Dr. on April 1st, so they said to keep in mind that
this appointment will be for at least 2 1/2 hours as I must have a
meeting with the dietitian. I will be sure to let you all know how that
goes. Thanks bunches for all your kindness’s. Gloria
