Post-WLS Insurance Issues - PLEASE READ IF YOU HAVE HAD THE SURGERY

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Dear everyone,
If you have had weight loss surgery, please keep reading (if you haven’t, you
may want to
read this anyway):
I had my stomach stapled almost five years ago. At the time, I was under my
parents’
insurance, which wouldn’t cover the surgery, so my parents paid for it (I am
very blessed
for that).
Two years later, I was no longer considered a dependent, so I went to Blue
Sheild for
insurance. At first, they denied me, because I had recently had the surgery -
they were
worried about complications - but I was HIPAA eligible (because of the COBRA I
had been

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

COUGH MEDICINES THAT I CAN TAKE…LIKE ROBATUSSIN DM. I HAD MY SURGERY

ANOTHER QUESTION I HAVE IS ABOUT CITRICEL. IF I AM GOING REGULAR AND

Mommies-to-be

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Kourtney and Everyone else, first sorry it has taken me so long to
respond. I have a new email and couldn’t figure out how to reset
things, so I just set up a new acct. So, here I am now!! :-) Anyway, yes, I am due tomorrow. I feel fine, just really tired and
ready to be done. I LOVE being pregnant, and I too, will miss being
pregnant, but I want to meet my baby and see if it’s a boy or girl.
We did not find out, much to my husband’s dismay!! :-) I cannot
believe how fast and in some ways how slow this has all gone. I
have not had any problems, I have felt great the whole time. Just
had to make sure I ate regularly, if I let myself get too hungry, I
would get the dry heaves………..yuck!!!!! (worse than actually
throwing up) But I have gained only 35 lbs and have been measuring
right on, or alittle ahead of sch. So, I have been very lucky. I
am also dialated to 2 as of Friday. I will be sure to let you know
when the big day is!!

4 days after Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Hello all,
I had a gastric sleeve (or sleeve gastrectomy) performed on Thursday.
It is my 4th day, and I am feeling a little bit deppressed.
The surgery went great, I’ve had no major problems other than
intollerance to one of the painkillers the day of the surgery.
But I am feeling a little bit sad, and wondering if I made the right
decision. I keep thinking I could have lost the weight by just
dieting, even though I tried a lot and never really could. I feel
my life has drastically changed. I am on a liquid diet for this
week, and getting use to eating very small portions and very slowly.
It is not easy.
I weight 244lbs, in this 4 days I have lost 9lbs, so I am weighing
235lbs. My ideal weight is 130lbs, so I have 105lbs to go.
Everyone tells me that it was the right decision, because I am still
young (25 years old), my lifestyle is going to be healthier, and I

to be or not to be

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Hello friends,
I am currently in the process of jumping through hoops for
medicare. I currently also havc BCBS also but they have opted out of
surgery for obesity.
I too am afraid, but since November I have been on oxeycodone for
pain .Since Nov.-Dec. my body has decided to become my worst
enemy ,joint pain, back pain, neck pain, sleep loss. I went to my regular
doctor and he listened to me , I also noticed he wrote one word on my
papers it said OBESE. I was feeling pretty sorry for myself.I too am
afraid of the surgery but if evryday of my life is to be like this I am
ready I considered a weight loss clinic are these any good . The above
doctor is helping me with all tests. Thanks for listening.

five weeks out

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I am 42 years old and just had my surgery five weeks ago. I don’t
know yet if I would suggest the surgery for anyone else. I am still
leaking in my wounds. I had 75 staples.
I have lost 40 pounds in the five weeks. I am having problems with
meats. I love to eat popcorn and is going down better than anything
else. I have just started not to be full as I was in the beginning.
I am worry I will go back to my old habit. Can that happen?
I weighed 350 and now 310 my goal is 160. I hope to be 100 pounds
less in June. How can I make that happen.

Indecision

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

I am 54 years old and have been a member of this group for awhile, but
haven’t posted anything-just an observer until now. I presently am
about 100 lbs. overweight and have lots of knee and joint pain. As
far as I know there are no other co-morbidities that I suffer from,
but they could be there without my knowledge. I have read and read
and read so much about WLS. It seems like the postings here seem more
negative than positive and it scares me. Are you EVER able to eat
normally after your surgery? I read so much about no milk, etc., etc.
and all these vitamin deficiencies. I have had my initial bloodwork
and interview with the nurse, but haven’t gone any further. This is a
new year and I want to start a new life, but am really hesitant. I
guess I just need a little pep talk! Thanks for any encouragement you
can give me!

Need a support. Pre-op anxiety.

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

I am 47 years old and my BMI is 45. I am hoping to complete all my pre-
op appointments to have a Lap. RNY by March 1. I have sleep apnea and
fortunately no other co-morbidities. Although I am sure I want this
surgery, every time I read a post-op story, especially someone with a
complication, I get very nervous and anxiuos. My surgery is not for
at least another 3 months and I am a nervous wreck thinking about it
every waking minute. Anyone go through this who can give me a few
pointers to make the wait easier.

Taste changes in foods

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

Why is it that foods and drinks that I previously enjoyed suddenly
(post-op) taste HORRIBLE and is this permanant?
