I read the following article regarding the case study of a woman who
developed a vitamin B1 deficiency following WLS. I found the
article and several of her comments, specifically, the comment about
WLS being a “quick-fix” for obesity offensive. Also, the article
does not mention if the woman in the study was taking any of the
required supplements. I sent the writer an e-mail explaining the
decision to have WLS from an obese person’s point of view. I
encourage others to do the same. Obese people will continue to be
the outcasts of our society if we don’t start fighting back. I
never spoke up before my WLS, but now I feel the need to and I am
tired of defending my decision to have the surgery! Thanks for
letting me vent!

Hi there, everyone!
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it. And Happy Hanukkah to
those who celebrate that. All the rest, hope you’re doing well.
I have a question of those on the List who have investigated and/or
undergone a revision of their RNY surgery. What were the criteria
your revision surgeon required? I keep thinking I may have to jump
through some hoops. My insurance has changed a few times so don’t
know how the new insurance will handle this type of proposed
procedure.
My surgery was May 1, 1997 and I started at 386. I initially lost
about 200 pounds. However, I drank so much beer that I gained a
whole bunch back. And I rarely (if ever) exercise at this time.
Would the new surgeon have a requirement of a certain time period of
sobriety and some type of commitment to exercise?
Anyone try the Wish Center? How did that go? Anyone try a hypnotist?

It has been suggested that I get a “Medic Alert” bracelet to notify medical
personnel that I have had gastric bypass surgery in case I’m unable to inform
them myself.
Is there a standard inscription that is widely recognized??
I had an open RNY.
Thank you!!!

The best source for vitamins around is our own Vitalady. Her website
(Vitalady.com) is the ONLY place I will get ANY of my suppliments, vitamins and
protein drinks. They are very reasonable and great to deal with. She always has
the time to answer any questions you have too!!! They are the bestest!!!
Congrats!! Welcome to the land of “losers” !!! Its an awesome ride : )

Carolyn ,
I had lap rny 11/9/05 My weight was 14 pounds more than when I went
into the hospital YES 14 pounds when i got home then when i left for
the hospital . I had a hard time peeing as well . Once the the
water started running (LOL ) I lost those pound fast like over night
. Yes watery stool is normal . think about it you can not make
solid out of liquid so to speak . your intake is all liquid hence
all liquid out put . Yes It is very important to WALK and SIP
your protein drinks . and good old WATER . So walk and sip and
then walk and sip if only you walk around the house for 5 min. then
rest and repeat . It will help get things flowing . also help in your
healing .
hope this helps ,

Well, it looks like my surgery date is December 20, just about 2 weeks
and 2 days from now, and I am now starting to get really, REALLY
scared.
It sounds silly, but I am scared that I am going to die on the table
or of some sort of complication. I try to weigh this against the
virtual CERTAINTY of early death if I stay at the weight I am now -
and so far this has worked, but I’m a single mom and I guess I’m just
a weenie. My doctor says I am the “perfect” candidate, because I don’t
have hypertension or diabetes (yet), so he is hopeful that my risk for
complications, while of course present, is as minimized as possible.
I weigh right around 305 lbs, I’ve signed up for post-surgical
counseling with a therapist I know, because I am having a hard time
thinking about what life is going to be like when I am not morbidly
obese. How will people relate to me? How will I relate to people?
Simple things like being able to apply my own toenail polish without
