I’m not quite where you are. Just met with my surgeon, and I’m waiting to have
my surgery date scheduled.
I’ve been taking Fosamax for years, and asked my doctor if it was safe to
continue. He explained that it was.
If you really want to make sure, you can call the manufacturer and ask for their
assistance in determining what is best for you.

Appetite-Suppressing Hormone Discovered
2005 November 10
By By LAURAN NEERGAARD (AP Medical Writer)
WASHINGTON - Scientists have discovered a biological brake for a hunger
hormone: a competing hormone that seems to counter the urge to eat.
The substance, named obestatin, has been tested just in laboratory rats so
far. But if it pans out, the discovery of the dueling hormones could lead
not only to a new appetite suppressant, but also help unravel the complex
ways that the body regulates weight.
It turns out that the same gene sparks production of the two opposing
hormones, Stanford University researchers say in Friday’s edition of the
journal Science.

Hi everyone–
I’m fairly new to this group. I’m in the wait, wait, wait period
before surgery gets scheduled. Probably in the spring. So I’m using
this time to research and educate myself and learn as much as I can.
I posted this question to another group and got a few good responses
but I’m still looking for more. My surgeon is of the mindset that
protein should come from food. I have a lot of information so far
that protein shakes are invaluable. So I’m looking for a website or
research that compares the two approaches. Or even information that
supports getting protein from food– I’m already leaning toward the
shakes but I like to read both sides of things to make a decision.
Rny-Proximal — I’m wondering if type of surgery has a bearing on
assimilation of protein.
Has anyone been through a nutritional program that focuses on getting
protein from food post-surgery? Can you say a little about it?

I will be having my surgery in two more days. It is hard to believe. I
find myself with all kinds of mixed emotions. I am trying to go
forward with a positive attitude. Everyone please think of me and pray
for a successful surgeery.
Thank You,
Becky

Hey everybody out there!
Need to update you on a situation that happened to me on my surgery
date 10-25-2005. Everything was going well. I showed up at 06:30 at
Rivercrest Surgery Center in Little Rock, AR. I was prepaired for the
surgery that was to begin at 7:30. Everything was great. Blood
preasure 123/60. EKG was so normal that it was throwing out error
messages according to the anesthesiologist. After sedating me with
muscle relaxers, we proceeded to the OR. That’s when things got rough.
The
staff was unable to intibate me. I was half awake as this was going on
and tried to notify somebody that I needed air! Finally after a while
(I have no idea how long) I was able to breath but in the process,
they had canceled the surgery. I am now in the process of healing the
inside of my mouth (gums and teeth) from where the tubing actually
caused more damage than good. Also trying to get myself siked up and

My surgery is Nov. 17 I had my last weigh in Nov. 9 I have experienced very
little negativity.
My family is 100% for it. They have seen me struggle with my weight all my life
and they worry that I won’t live long unless I do something drastic soon. The
people at work have been very supportive. I’ve run into a few that had a friend
of a friend die/go into a coma/ etc I just don’t let them bother me. They
weren’t there when I starve myself to lose weight only to gain all that plus
back. I’ve been doing that for 35 years… It’s not working. I am worried
about the surgery, I wouldn’t be human if I weren’t, but I’ve made my decision.
All I can do is put it in God’s hands…
